Comprehensive HIV Care & Management

This course offers hands-on skills for HIV and AIDS Management necessary for personal and family levels. The lead objective of this course is to raise an effective and professional workforce on HIV and AIDS issues through knowledge, training and skills impartation as well as to increase employability of the participants by the additional training and skills attained.

  • Epidemiology (global and local trends)
  • Emerging issues in HIV prevention (including Combination prevention; the 3 90s) and care
  • Impact of HIV

Basic facts about HIV and IDS
  • Progression of HIV and its effects on the human immune system
  • HIV life cycle
  • WHO Clinical staging in adolescents and adults
Common Opportunistic Infections and Management HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) Approaches in Uganda
  • HIV Testing protocols
  • HIV Counselling protocols (in the context of pre and post-test counselling)
  • Policy issues in HCT service delivery
Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART)
  • Principles and practices
  • ART Initiation and monitoring
  • Side effects of ARVs and their management
  • Policy issues in ART for children and adults
Introduction to e-MTCT of HIV and care of HIV+ Pregnant and lactating mothers
  • Infant and Young child feeding in the context of HIV management
  • Policy issues in e-MTCT of HIV
Positive Prevention

At the end of this course, learners should be able to: -

  • Describe current HIV and AIDS trends and future projections.
  • Describe HIV Transmission and Pathology: Progression of HIV- Effects of HIV on the Immune System.
  • Outline HIV Prevention strategies and Models.
  • Discuss HIV and Social issues (Religious and Cultural traditions)
  • Discuss HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT)
  • Outline HIV Positive Living and Psycho-social Support systems and strategies.
  • Discuss HIV Counselling and management in special circumstances e.g. Substance Addicts
  • Describe HIV Counselling in relation to Positive Prevention.
  • Discuss HIV and AIDS Management Policy issues.
  • Discuss ART and Adherence issues.
  • Describe HCT Services Management.

This Course is 6 Weeks,
9:00am to 2pm on consecutive Saturdays

TUITION

This Course costs 300,000 Shillings and an application fee of 10,000 Shillings
