Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education (PGDME)
TARGET GROUP
This program is for health professionals already teaching and those interested in teaching jobs in health training institutions. Specifically, the program is intended for a holder of:
- A Bachelors’ Degree in a Health-related field from a recognized higher education institution and a working experience of at least two years. And must be registered with a Professional council i.e. Nurses and Midwives, Allied Health or Medical and Dental Councils.
Upon completion of this program the graduates shall demonstrate ability to:
- Teach effectively i.e. communicate effectively, develop and select teaching and learning materials and manage a class effectively.
- Guide and supervise trainers to work in a health facility effectively i.e. provide patient care, collect, manage and interpret clinical and non-clinical data.
- Carry out research and use new knowledge i.e. use appropriate technologies in research and teaching.
- Manage and lead effectively a health training institution.
- Develop and evaluate curricula: interpret and evaluate a health-training curriculum.
- Practical teaching/learning including micro and peer teaching, demonstrations and return demonstration in the clinical and community settings.
- School attachment shall provide health tutor trainees and opportunity to try out and develop their teaching skills under the guidance of their trainers.
- Research- develops health tutor trainees’ knowledge and skills in conducting research.

The tutor trainee shall do School Practice (SP) during the Recess semester at the end of 2nd Semester in a health training institution. This SP shall be invigilated for competences in teaching in particular and medical education for six weeks. |
